Kate Macleod graduated from North Carolina State University (NCSU) in May 2024 with a degree in Sustainable Materials and Technology. During her final two years at NC State, she interned with the university’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Office and became Toward Zero Waste’s first intern! In this role, she supported various projects, including the Midtown Farmers Market Compost Drop-off, the “Smash Don’t Trash” pumpkin composting initiative, and the “Keep Cool in a Warming World” Eco-grief Workshop.

For her contributions both on and off campus, Kate was named the 2024 NCSU Sustainability Award Student Recipient. She was also part of the Toward Zero Waste team that received the City of Raleigh Climate Action Award for Waste Reduction. Kate currently works at the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality as an Outreach Coordinator for the Environmental Stewardship Initiative.
