Shriya:
As a volunteer for TZW I have learned how to collaborate with others and work together to complete projects that affect our community. As a volunteer, you can help make a change in your community and can see the impact the projects you are working on actually make. I have been able to inspire teens to care about the environment and have created resources that educate others on what they can do to help. Being a volunteer with TZW allows you to take part in improving our world and lets you be in charge of the impact you want to make. You make the decisions and choices when you lead your project and are considered a partner instead of a kid or volunteer. I love working with the members of TZW because we are a family. We work together to do what we can to help however we can while holding each other up and congratulating each other for our achievements, Whether they are related to the environment or not.
Sydney:
Volunteering with Toward Zero Waste this past summer has been one of my most rewarding experiences: it enriched my environmental advocacy skills and transformed my attitude towards waste in a way that was fun, hands-on, and engaging. As I made graphics promoting plastic-reducing habits and wrote blogs featuring local low-waste businesses, I thoroughly enjoyed the process of learning on the job – both in terms of content and skills. Most of all, it was wonderful to work alongside such enthusiastic and welcoming mentors who demonstrated their passion, perseverance, and determination. Their positive influence has truly shaped me, inspiring me to change my habits and greatly reduce my footprint.
