Wake County Waste and Recycling

Wake County Solid Waste provides an array of solid waste services including disposal and recycling facilities and operations, litter and illegal dumping enforcement as well as outreach and education programs.


We collect food scraps from residents and businesses to help them reduce waste and support local gardens. How it works: You sign up and get your bin. Collect your food scraps. We pick it up once a week and turn it into soil for you!

NC State Compost Learning Lab

The NC State Compost Learning Lab (CL2) is a 2-acre education, research and demonstration facility in the heart of the 1,500-acre Lake Wheeler Road Field Laboratory in Raleigh, North Carolina. This site has lots of information on how to start composting in your own backyard!
